Legionella Refresher Training - The
UK's Health & Safety Executive recommend that regular
refresher training covering aspects associated with
the control of Legionella bacteria in water systems
be undertaken on a regular basis.
Our Legionella refresher training courses (online and
classroom based) have been developed specifically for
those who have previously undertaken a recognised Legionella
training programme and now require a training update.
The course is classroom based and covers issues that
surround Legionella and Legionnaires’ disease,
the management and treatment of water systems, health
and safety data management, current legislation and
compliance issues, good practice procedures and a review
of recent outbreaks. The course completes with a short
test of competence and discussion forum.
Who Should Attend?
This course provides candidates with refresher training
in aspects relevant to the management and control of
Legionella risks. It will be of most benefit to those
designated as the "Responsible Person", technical,
engineering and maintenance staff, building safety and
facilities managers, company owners and directors with
responsibility for health and safety who require a more
detailed understanding of the issues surrounding Legionella
risk management, water treatment regimes, health and
safety data management; and current legislation and
good practice procedures.
Course Pre-Qualification Requirements
Prior to commencing this refresher training course
delegates must have previously completed a recognised
Legionella training programme to an intermediate standard.
Course Content
- Introduction.
- The chemistry of water. Focusing in more detail
on the aspects of scale, corrosion, suspended solids
and microbiological activity associated with water.
- Water and its use in cooling towers and cooling
systems.
- Managing Legionella risks in cooling towers and
cooling systems, including water treatment programmes
and methodology.
- Water and its use in hot and cold water systems.
- Managing Legionella risks in hot and cold water
systems, including water treatment programmes and
methodology.
- A review of the requirements for health and safety
data management, record keeping and site log books,
including electronic software systems.
- A review of the Health and Safety Commissions
Approved Code of Practice and Guidance (ACoP) L8
document “Legionnaires ‘Disease: Control
of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems”.
- Examination – short test of competence
covering course content. Upon successful completion
of the examination candidates will receive a Legionella
Control “Certificate of Competence”.
- Discussion and feedback including practical examples
and experiences from the course tutors.
Certification
Course delegates will receive a Legionella Control
“Certificate of Competence” , following
the successful completion of this refresher course.
This certificate should be retained as evidence of formal
training in this subject.

One day course, commencing 9.30am and completing 1.00pm.
