- HSE video “An Introduction to the Control
of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems”.
This excellent video presentation examines the two
main risk systems associated with Legionella bacteria
- cooling towers and hot and cold water systems.
It explains how the risks from exposure to legionella
should be managed and controlled, by risk assessment;
treatment and control; monitoring; and cleaning
and disinfection; and is accompanied by a series
of audit checklists.
- The chemistry of water - level 2. Focusing in
more detail on the aspects of scale, corrosion,
suspended solids and microbiological activity associated
with water.
- Water and its use in cooling towers and cooling
systems – level 2.
- Managing Legionella risks in cooling towers and
cooling systems, including water treatment programmes
and methodology.
- Water and its use in hot and cold water systems

data management, record keeping and site log books,
including electronic software systems.
- A review of the Health and Safety Commissions
Approved Code of Practice and Guidance (ACoP) L8
document “Legionnaires ‘Disease: Control

This guide has special legal status and gives practical
advice on the requirements of the Health and Safety
at Work etc Act 1974, the Control of Substances
Hazardous to Health Regulations 1999 (COSHH) and

examples to demonstrate risk management procedures,
treatment programmes, remedial action etc.
- Examination – short test of competence
covering course content. Upon successful completion
of the examination candidates will receive a Legionella
Control “Certificate of Competence”
Level 2.
- Discussion and feedback including practical examples
and experiences from the course tutors.
Delegates Will Learn:
- About the relevant aspects of water chemistry
associated with Legionella bacteria.
- About cooling towers and other cooling systems,
and how to manage and treat Legionella risks.
- About hot and cold water systems, and how to manage
and treat Legionella risks.
